Dr. Gates' quote from Business Leaders' Breakfast

"I wish to particularly welcome and thank the San Gabriel Valley Council guests. The Los Angeles and San Gabriel Valley Councils are discussing a merger. Across the country Scouting is moving towards more efficient and effective business models to deliver the mission. Experience has shown us in large and small councils nationally that what we can accomplish together goes beyond what we can accomplish apart. Both councils are blessed with strong programs, engaged volunteers, seven great camping facilities and infrastructure. A combined council will offer a wider variety of experiences in this combined portfolio than either of the current Councils have offered previously, and that translates into more opportunities and better experiences for your more than 25,000 Scouts. Merging reduces administrative and duplicate expenses. These savings can be redeployed to better serve our Scouts and volunteers in the field. The synergies and leveraging of volunteer efforts allows the future of Scouting to be better preserved by working together to accomplish the core values we instill in young people.

There is no finer organization to prepare young people to make ethical choices over their lifetime. Offering outstanding Scouting experiences to more young people is our mission."

-Dr. Robert M. Gates– National President of the BSA
